Virginia McCord Smith became the 15th president of Alpha Epsilon State and was installed at the 1965 Indianapolis state convention.  Her biennial theme was “Creative Individuals, Their Value to a Society.”
Initiated into Theta Chapter in 1958, Virginia quickly assumed the role of chapter leadership.  Twice she was chapter president, 1962-1964 and 1982-1984.  Virginia was known by Theta members as a vivacious, informed, refined, gentle woman.  Her peers also described her as a cordial, diplomatic, accomplished key woman educator.
Mrs. Smith had been an elementary classroom teacher before pursuing a master’s degree at Columbia University, NYC.  After that was achieved she worked for Ginn and Company for six years as district representative and academic consultant for elementary textbooks.
Virginia’s leadership skills were apparent by her amount of community and professional service involvement – Logansport Art Association, Trinity Episcopal Church, YWCA, YMCA, AAUW, PEO, the United Way.
