Mrs. Jean Guion, Beta Eta, passed away on December 30, 2007 in Alexandria following an extended illness.
A kindergarten teacher for 13 years as well as consultant to Indianapolis Public School kindergartens in her early career, Mrs. Guion later supervised student teachers as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at Indiana State University, Terre Haute.
Her presence was felt at all levels of the Society.  She was a charter member of Beta Gamma Chapter and served as recording secretary, then president.  Later she transferred to Beta Eta Chapter when living in Terre Haute.
Mrs. Guion simultaneously served Alpha Epsilon State as state president (1967-1969) and acting editor of The Hoosier Newsette. Previously she had been a member of the Personal Growth Committee, then state chair of Professional Affairs.  Interestingly, her election to the state presidency was held at the Pick-Congress Hotel in Chicago, the second state convention to be held outside Indiana.  Following her biennium she was elected state executive secretary.
At the 1972 International Convention in Houston TX, Jean assumed the chairmanship of the International Publicity and Publications Committee.  Leadership involvement strengthened Jean’s appreciation for the opportunities offered to all members of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
For many years Jean Guion faithfully attended all state functions and offered a cheerful, encouraging perspective to those who met her.  Her daughter Laurie recalled her mother’s dedication to the Society and said, “It was just a part of my mother.”
