Miss Lola Lemon, past president of Rho Chapter, was elected Alpha Epsilon State president in 1963. Her biennium theme was “Spiritual Fellowship: Broaden Horizons and Build Bridges of Understanding.” While state president, new committee structures were transitioned at the international level—Society Business, Program of Work, and Educational Services.
Miss Lemon taught at Foster School, transferred to her hometown of Larwill to teach seventh and eighth grades, and later taught at the high school. She then moved to Gary and taught biology in the Lew Wallace High School for 40 years, where she served as science department chair. A graduate of Indiana University, Lola also studied at Purdue University and Western State College in Colorado.
Lola Lemon chaired the community service and program committees at the state level. She found time to lead the Indiana School Women’s club, was active in the Indiana State Teachers Association, and was a member of several scientific organizations.
When asked about highlights of her biennium, Miss Lemon replied, “Perhaps the highlight moment of my two years was presenting an armful of red roses to Dr. Carolyn Guss at the [San Francisco] International Convention when she became International President.”
