An educator for almost 50 years, Lettie Trefz was a dedicated member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was General Consultant in Elementary Education Textbook and Course Adoption in the Indianapolis Schools at her retirement, having served as Handwriting Consultant for most of her career.
Lettie Trefz actively participated in the activities and duties of Omega Chapter as a member and chair of many committees prior to being elected chapter president. She became president of Alpha Epsilon State 1955-1957, later continuing to serve as state program chair, state parliamentarian, and state editor of The Hoosier Newsette. She was appointed to the international recruitment committee in 1959. She planned programs for the 1961 Northeast Regional Conference held at French Lick.
Lettie left a $114,000 bequest to the International Scholarship Fund, signifying how much she valued her Society membership.  She was eulogized by Dr. Carolyn Guss for the “…glorious legacy she left to Delta Kappa Gamma!  Through this bequest Lettie has given perpetual expression to the ideals to which she dedicated her life—service to Delta Kappa Gamma and other professional and philanthropic organizations…encouragement and assistance in the growth and advancement of young people.”
Mrs. Trefz not only served the Society but was continually active in professional and community organizations both locally and nationally.
