Dr. Mamie Spangler, Rho Chapter, was the 1946-1948 state president. During her biennium five chapters were formed – Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Zeta, Alpha Eta, Alpha Theta, and Alpha Iota. She became state program chair in 1956.
Mamie Spangler was an elementary supervisor of the Lake County schools for many years. After her retirement there, she became an assistant professor elementary education at the University of Richmond in Virginia.
During her Lake County tenure, Dr. Spangler urged a loosely formed Indiana chapter of ASCD to affiliate with its national organization, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She had chaired the Indiana chapter for three years and was honored in 1976 for her efforts.
