Dr. Greenleaf was elected Alpha Epsilon state president in 1969 while serving as Professor of Education at Indiana University, Bloomington.  Prior to this, she had served as 2nd vice president of Omicron Chapter.  Later she was 1st vice president and 1964-1966 was president of Alpha Chapter in Bloomington.  Her motto was:  “You have a job to do.  Get it done.  Get it done right.  Have some fun getting it done.”
Elizabeth Greenleaf was appointed chair of the International Committee on Scholarships following her state presidency.  At the same time she was chair of the Department of College Student Personnel.  In 1978 she chaired the International Insurance Committee, recognized for adding dependents to member insurance plans and including maternity and leukemia benefits.  She was named chair of the 1979-1980 Alpha Epsilon ad hoc committee to revise the state policies.
Betty, as she was known to friends, was   “a generous, good-hearted person.”  She was “a feminist before it was a national movement,” clearly illustrated by her support of the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment while serving as president of the National Association of Women Deans and Counselors.
Following her death in May 1979, a memorial fund was established at Indiana University to endow the Elizabeth A. Greenleaf Chair in Student Personnel Administration.   Currently the Alpha Epsilon State organization provides financial help through the Elizabeth A. Greenleaf Scholarship to a member admitted to a doctoral program.  Dr. Jacqueline Carl was the first recipient of the scholarship.
