Miss Ruth Sutton, longtime member of Sigma Chapter and later a member of Tau Chapter, served first as Sigma Chapter president 1954-1956, was a Life member of the State Chapter, and was a familiar figure at both state and international meetings.
Ruth Sutton was elected state president for the 1959-1961 biennium, having previously been first vice president. She chaired the 1956 state convention held in Chicago and was chairman of the 1958 Workshop at Butler University, Indianapolis. She helped plan programs for the 1961 Northeast Regional Conference held at French Lick.
Miss Sutton was a language arts teacher for grades 4-6 in the Whiting schools. She was an active member of the local Classroom Teachers Association, president of the State Council of English Teachers, and served five years as a member of the Resolutions Committee for the State Classroom Teachers Association. An active community participant, Ruth sponsored the local Camp Fire Girls and led a Brownie troop.
