Council 8 (Marion and Hamilton Counties) celebrated the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting many women the right to vote in the US by hearing Cheryl Steuerwald, Epsilon chapter, share the stories of some famous Hoosier suffragists beyond the spotlight. We MUCH rather would have been at the Woodstock Club, where this even has been held for several years now, but... we can adjust. Maybe next year!
Chapters from central Indiana, Marion and Hamilton Counties, got together for their annual luncheon on Saturday at the Woodstock Club in Indianapolis. Featured speaker Shannon Anderson shared her journey as an avid reader as a child to a published writer, mother of two, teacher of gifted students and was available to autograph her books after her presentation. The Rose Store also was present, thanks to chairman Mary Anne Schager. State President Jo Jones and past state presidents Judy Raybern and Ina VanDuyn were also in attendance.
Keynote speaker for the annual Council 8 luncheon in Indianapolis was Leslie S. Dunn, J.D., Indiana State Director of GAL/CASA. She has worked for the Indiana Supreme Court for 16 years. Her analogy comparing the ordeal of an abused/neglected child dealing with the court system to that of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz was enlightening.
Photo courtesy of Nancy Hoff The Woodstock Club of Indianapolis was the chosen venue for this year's Council 8 luncheon, and in spite of roads surrounding the location being closed off for the Monumental Marathon, members of all four chapters of Council 8 enjoyed a delicious luncheon and an entertaining speaker. Pictured above: members of Beta, Beta Tau, Omega, and Alpha Chi renewed old friendships and created new ones; past state president Ina Van Duyn gave an opening thought; Omega Co-President Saundra Brown and Council 8 Vice Chair Deb Carrell put their heads together for planning; Beta President Nancy Goldfarb introduced the speaker.
