Dr. Georgia A. Bowman, a key woman educator, chaired chapter committees, was corresponding secretary, and then president of Omega Chapter. In 1971 she was elected state president, having already served at the state level as chairman of professional affairs and program committees. Dr. Bowman also chaired the Indianapolis Council of DKG chapters. She was a member of the 1970 International Committee on Professional Affairs. She was named chairman of the International Committee on Program in 1974. Three years later, Georgia met in Austin, TX with members of the Leadership Development Committee to formulate regional conference training sessions for incoming state presidents. In 1980 she was elected to a four-year term as Member-at-Large on the Administrative and Executive Boards at the International level. Dr. Bowman chaired the committee of five state leaders who revised the state bylaws in 1983 to be voted on by the membership at the 1984 state conference. She held leadership roles in several professional organizations, including state and national levels of Administrative Women in Education. She was elected president of the 11thDistrict of the Indiana Association of Elementary Principals. Georgia Bowman served the Indianapolis Public Schools as an elementary teacher, teacher of the gifted, general elementary consultant, and as principal. Dr. Bowman died January 2, 2021, at the age of 93. She will be very much missed by members of Omega as well as her many friends across the country.
