Alpha Epsilon State members will long remember the friendship, warmth and dedication of Mrs. Janet O’Neal, who passed way December 18, 2006 in Cincinnati.
Janet O’Neal, Beta Chi, was known for her many contributions to the Society she had faithfully served at all levels.  Initiated into Mu Chapter in 1967, later she transferred to Beta Chi.  Janet had chaired many chapter committees, was elected president, and was appointed chapter parliamentarian.  She also served in various capacities at the state level, chairing the research and program committees as well as the strategic planning ad hoc committee.  She was elected to the presidency in 1993.  After her term in office, she served as state editor of The Hoosier Newsette for nine years.  As a member of the 1999 Northeast Regional Conference Steering Committee in Indianapolis, Janet coordinated conference printing and publicity.  Janet was a member of the International Communications Committee.  She attended the 1962 Golden Gift Leadership/Management Seminar in Austin, TX.  She was instrumental in establishing the state leadership/management seminar, later renamed the Janet O’Neal Seminar for Personal Growth.  She determined that officer training, now known as CCOT, would best serve the incoming chapter leaders if separated from another state meeting.
Formerly a French teacher in the Rising Sun schools, Janet guided students through the intricacies of learning a foreign language.  She sponsored trips abroad for her students to acquire firsthand knowledge.
A prolific writer, Janet especially enjoyed the Rising Sun Writers group.  She was club treasurer and editor of that group’s anthology.  As a member of the Bright Presbyterian Church, Janet encouraged her granddaughters’ involvement in church activities.
Janet is survived by her husband Bob, two children, and four grandchildren.  She left a legacy of commitment to her family, school, community and the Society.
